ACN Number (Australian Company Number)

An ACN is a 9 digit number that only registered companies receive in Australia used for identifying a company. Unlike ABNs, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) issues ACNs Numbers.

Type of Business Entities:

There are 4 different types of business entities that can be registered in Australia:

  • Sole Proprietorship: A simple business form where the founder or the owner is the sole owner and also liable for the debts and obligations of the registered company.
  • Limited Liability Company: A Limited Liability Company can take the form of a Public or a Private Corporation.
  • Partnership: A collaboration between individuals who wish to run a business together in Australia.
  • Branch: Branch is used by foreign corporations that want to expand to the Australian market, it is dependent on the company abroad.
